Dhola-Sadiya Bridge

Dhola-Sadiya Bridge

One of his significant work...

With 9.15 kilometers in length, it is the longest bridge over water in India... It is 3.4 kilometers longer than the Mahatma Gandhi Setu over the river Ganges connecting Patna in the south to Hajipur and 3.55 kilometers longer than the Bandra Worli Sea Link in Mumbai. It is not merely a bridge over water with steel and concrete but a symbol of the end of the misery of thousands and thousands of people in the area, earlier considered to be "KALAPANI" due to lack of proper communication...

Even after 55 years of the country's independence and various MLAs and MPs representing the area, no one bothered to work for the bridge except former minister and sitting MLA Jagadish Bhuyan and MP Dr. Arun Sharma in 2003.

On 29th May 2003 then Sadiya MLA Jagadish Bhuyan and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Arun Sharma submitted a proposal to Sri CP Thakur then Union Minister SSI & DONER for the Dhola Sadiya Bridge for the first time in the history...

On 24th June 2003 then Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Mukut Mithi sent a letter to then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee requesting for the bridge...

On 7th July 2003, Jagadish Bhuyan and Dr. Arun Sharma submitted the proposal to Sri BC Khanduri then Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways for the Dhola Sadiya Bridge.

On 10th July 2003, Jagadish Bhuyan and Dr. Arun Sharma submitted a follow-up proposal to Sri CP Thakur then Union Minister SSI & DONER for the Bridge again.

On 7th August 2003, MP Sri Arun Sharma asked an unstarred question (No.:1979) in Rajya Sabha regarding the Bridge.

This is how the initial feasibility study process began on 14th August 2003 and Construction began in 2011 under the aegis of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in a public-private partnership (PPP) with Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd.

This Magnificent Bridge is presented to the people by Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi on 26th May 2017.

Dangari Fake Encounter Case

Dangari Fake Encounter Case

One of his significant work...

Army personnel picked up nine AASU leaders on February 18, 1994, on the suspicion of killing a tea garden official.

On February 19, Jagadish Bhuyan got information about the detention of the AASU leaders and contacted the then Superintendent of Police and other officials to look for the students.

When he filed a PIL in the Gauhati High Court on February 22 that year, the court ordered the Army to produce the detained persons to the nearest magistrate.

The Army then produced five bodies at the Dhola police station saying they were killed in an encounter.

Since then, Bhuyan has been pursuing the case in the Gauhati High Court and then in the Supreme Court.

The high court ordered a CBI inquiry into the case and subsequently the charges were proven. However, the Army then moved the SC, which upheld the high court’s order.

Seven military personnel, including four Army officers, were sentenced to life imprisonment by an Army court on Sunday in this connection. /

Bhuyan, who relentlessly pursued the legal battle against the extra-judicial killings, for 24-odd years, has upheld his faith in the judiciary system and for holding the guilty responsible for the crime.
